Summer: May to August hovers between 16°C – 22°C.

Rain gear: Carry a light packable rain jacket. Even on sunny days, it’s common for a quick shower to pass through.

Bell’s Field

You will find this area by walking to the top of Patrick’s Hill in the immediate city centre. The short climb is worth it for the views.

Fitzgerald Park

Located on the Mardyke Walk, only a short distance from the city centre and University College Cork. 

The Lee Fields

Take a walk by the banks of the river Lee. The southside of the river has an official pathway suitable for cycling or walking


Regional Park

The park has several playing pitches, a skate park, river walks, woodland trails and numerous picnic areas.

The Lough

A scenic bird sanctuary popular for activities like yoga and slacklining.

From June to July, it hosts “Céilí Cois Locha,” a free outdoor Irish dancing session on Wednesdays from 19:30 to 21:00.

Tramore Valley

This park has a 2.5 km looped walkway, BMX track, outdoor gym and rugby pitches.

There is a Parkrun held here every Saturday at 09.30. This is a free timed, 5km run.


Beaumount Quarry

This is one of the more unusual but beautiful parks in Cork. It is an old abandoned limestone quarry, now used for recreation. It is very important for local biodiversity and wildlife conservation.

Glen River Park

An ancient glacial valley known as ‘The Glen’.

There is a Parkrun held here every Saturday at 09.30. This is a free timed, 5km run.

Marina Walkway

Stretching along the River Lee’s south channel, this peaceful path runs from the Atlantic Pond to Blackrock Village, offering stunning views and fresh air.


Lough Mahon Loop

Starting at Blackrock Castle, the route follows a public looped walkway with views of the river and harbour.

The area is very popular for running and walking.

Cork Greenway

Greenways in Ireland are paths converted from disused railway lines.

This is a fantastic route and connects Passagewest and Rochestown to the city centre.

The Marina Park

This urban park has a smooth paved platform which is perfect for roller blading, skating, running and walking.

Work and Study Programme

Suitability: Courses suitable for students from outside of Europe who need to formalize their stay in Ireland for Immigration purposes (stamp 2 and visa applicants).

8 Month Stay: The Programme offers an 8 month stay in Ireland and must include at least 25 weeks study ( 25 weeks study + 2 month holiday period)

Internationally Mixed Classes: All students from within and outside of Europe are placed in mixed international classes according to their specific English language level and at the same price too.

Immigration Requirements

Final External Exam

Option 1: TIE Exam

  • The TIE exam follows the 25-week General English course.
  • There’s no specific prep course, but students must complete three tasks: a short project on a personal interest, read a book in English, and follow a news story.
    Minimum level: A1.

Option 2: IELTS Exam

  • The IELTS exam follows a 19-week General English course and a 6-week IELTS preparation course (25 weeks total).
  • It assesses your English proficiency for academic environments, including understanding academic language like charts and statistics.
  • Minimum Level: A2 Pre-Intermediate for the 25-week course; B1+ for the 6-week standalone course.

Learner Protection (PEL)

Learner Protection (PEL) is provided by Arachas and ensures that, in the event of a school closure, students can continue their studies at another accredited institution.

Medical Insurance

The school can arrange MediCover insurance through Arachas, providing medical support during your 8-month stay in Ireland €120.

Agency Ordered Insurance

  • Alternatively, as an agency you can set up an account with an insurance provider to secure preferential rates as a new customer.
  • Students must have specific insurance for international students living in Ireland.  
  • Guard.me or Study and Protect – Arachas insurance are familiar to Immigration in Ireland.

Important Notes

  • The insurance start date must match the student’s flight arrival date in Ireland.
  • The end date of the insurance must cover the full duration of the 8-month program as indicated on the official school letter.
  • If insurance dates are incorrect, the agency must have the ability to adjust and reorder dates to match the school letter.
  • The insurance company should allow for address changes, as many students relocate during their first few months in Cork.

Work Opportunities

Enrolling in one of these programmes also grants non-EU students work permissions in Ireland, which is why they are commonly referred to as “Work and Study” programmes.

Working Permissions

  • 40 hours per week during the months of June, July, August and September and from 15 December to 15 January inclusive.
  • At all other times you can work up to 20 hours per week.

Job Opportunities

  • Many of our students take up part-time or casual work in the hospitality sector, such as roles in restaurants, cafes, or retail.  
  • Cork’s welcoming environment and bustling hospitality sector make it easier to find part-time work during your studies.

An arrival transfer is available from Cork Airport or Cork City to the accommodation address on request: €50 one-way. Although most students staying at apartments simply jump in a taxi outside the airport. It is only a 15 minute journey to the city centre.

If either of these payment methods don’t suit your agency please let us know at the beginning of our partnership and we can discuss a customized payment method if needed (for example 2 installments before arrival).

Here are some important booking procedures which might be specific to Cork English Academy. We would appreciate if you could take your time to familiarize yourself with the following:

28 Day Booking Policy

The following details need to be finialed at least 28 days before arrival and before final confirmation or schools letters can be issued.

If all details are not received at least 28 days before arrival the booking will automatically be cancelled (refunds will be processed where applicable).

Monday After Arrival Start Date Mandatory

It is mandatory that all Stamp 2 and visa applicants start their course the immediate Monday after flight arrival to Ireland.

We offer courses from Elementary level (CEF A1) to Advanced level (CEF C2).

School Closure Dates

The school closes for public holidays throughout the year along with 2 weeks at Christmas.

Public Holidays

The following are the 2025 public holidays in Ireland: 3rd February, March 17, 21 April, 05 May, 02 June, 04 August and 27 October.

Christmas Holidays

The Christmas Closure Dates will be 22 December 2025 to 02 January 2026. The last day of class will be Friday 20 December 2025 and the first day back in 2026 will be Monday 05 January 2026.

Taking breaks during a long-term course can significantly enhance the learning experience. Holidays offer students a chance to recharge, explore Ireland, and return to their studies refreshed and motivated.

Medical Insurance


English Language Level Test

All students must take the school online level test before we can issue an official school letter needed for the visa application.

The school will email the student the link to our online level test.

Part 1: Multiple Choice Questions – needs to be completed before a school letter can be issued.

Part 2: Short Speaking Test – After the visa has been approved, the school will email the student a link to an online appointment calendar.

Visa Requiring Accommodation Options

You can if you wish pre-book accommodation with Cork English Academy along with the course. 

Alternatively you as the agent or the student directly can book your own accommodation in Cork independently of the school. In this case the agency needs to give the school the address in Cork and we will add it to the official school letter needed for the visa application.
